Business Meeting Details

  • Any motions that include changes to the MRID bylaws must be received by Wednesday, October 8th, 2025. Any motions that do not include changes to the bylaws can be received anytime before Saturday, November 8th or during the business meeting.

  • Motions can be submitted to https://tinyurl.com/MRIDmotions

  • Meeting will be held in ASL. 

  • Accommodation requests by Oct 24, 2025.

Board Nominations

Open positions: President, Membership Director, Programs Director, and Communications Director. (see below for a brief description)  All positions are 2 year terms except Communications Director is only 1 year.  All nominees must be members of both MRID and RID.  The President must be certified with 5 years interpreting experience.  Why join the board? Be the change you want to see for our profession and community! Develop your leadership and collaboration skills. Collaborate as a team to reach decisions, act as representatives for all of MRID, and provide support to MRID committees. MRID hosts many events with the community. We also hold monthly board meetings, annual board retreats, and facilitate MRID’s annual business meeting.  Get involved! President: Makes sure MRID runs smoothly and follows its policies and bylaws, supports the other board of directors and committee members, and facilitates all board meetings and the annual business meeting. Requirements include a minimum of five years of interpreting experience and holding RID national certification.

Membership Director: Supports MRID members by building relationships across communities, maintaining accurate membership records, and working with the Membership Committee to recruit new members and promote the benefits of joining MRID.

Programs Director: Supports MRID’s activities and ensures they are in line with the purpose of the organization, provides guidance and oversight to committees hosting events, and helps recruit committee members.

Communications Director: In charge of official communications to the membership and the wider community. If the Operations Director position is vacant or that person takes on the President's responsibilities, the Communications Director will take over all record-keeping duties for the organization.

MRID Organization of the Year Award: The Organization of the Year Award is given to an organization for their extraordinary contributions to the field of interpreting and/or the Minnesota Deaf Communities. MRID Lifetime Achievement Award: The MRID Lifetime Achievement Award is given in recognition of an MRID member who has made a significant and lasting impact on the field and practice of interpreting through their professional accomplishments, served the profession over an extended period of time, and has earned the respect and admiration of professional colleagues. MRID Appreciation Award: MRID appreciates the members of our interpreting and Deaf communities who are active contributors to maintaining our professional standards and commitment to excellence. MRID Lion Roars Humanitarian Award: In January of 2004, one of MRID's most dedicated and enthusiastic members, Leo Latz, passed away. At the news of his passing, several MRID members gave contributions to MRID in memory of Leo. With those contributions, the board decided to establish an award in Leo's name. Criteria: The Candidate must be an individual or group who does not depend on interpreting for their livelihood. The Candidate has contributed a considerable amount of their own time and talents to benefit the skill and knowledge development of individual interpreters, the organization of MRID, the interpreting profession, and the Deaf Community.
